Guard continues vaccination efforts on Camp Murray and Fairchild Air Force Base

With the push to vaccinate all Americans, the Washington Department of Health expanded the number of individuals who are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination.

The Washington National Guard also expanded its criteria of those eligible to be vaccinated. As of April 6, all dependents currently enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) 18 years of age and older can receive the Moderna vaccination at either Camp Murray or Fairchild Air Force Base.

“The intent of providing the vaccine is to protect individuals from COVID-19 and its associated symptoms and complications,” said Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty, the adjutant general. “Those receiving this vaccination may also be less likely to transmit it to family and friends.”

While the vaccine is still currently released under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and is not mandatory, all Guardsmen and their families are encouraged to educate themselves and know the facts about the COVID-19 vaccination.

“It is critical that you obtain information about the COVID-19 vaccine from official sources and avoid misinformation that could potentially put your lives and those of your loved ones at risk,” said Daugherty.

Ramadan

Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection and prayer for Muslims, the followers of Islam. It is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Quran, the holy book for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam. Each day during Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn to sunset. They are also supposed to avoid impure thoughts and bad behavior. Muslims break their daily fasts by sharing meals with family and friends, and the end of Ramadan is celebrated with a three-day festival known as Eid al-Fitr, one of Islam’s major holidays. Ramadan always falls on the ninth month of the 12-month Islamic calendar. Ramadan 2021 begins at sunset on Monday, April 12, and ends on Wednesday, May 12.
